Compare Xfmea Standard vs. Xfmea Enterprise
Two licensing options are available for ReliaSoft's Xfmea 5 software. With an Xfmea Standard license, you can store data in individual Standard database files. This type of license may be appropriate for individuals or small departments.
With an Xfmea Enterprise license, you can store data in a centralized Enterprise database (SQL Server® or Oracle®) and/or in individual Standard database files. This type of license may be preferred by large departments and organizations.
Most of the features in Xfmea 5 are available for any type of database. However, the ability to manage user accounts with different access permissions is available only for Enterprise databases or Standard databases with login security enabled.
Standard Databases
Standard databases are easy to create and maintain without any special IT infrastructure or support but there are limitations to the amount of data that can be stored in each file and the number of users who can access a database simultaneously (as specified by Microsoft for the Microsoft Access database file format).
Enterprise Databases (Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle)
An Enterprise database requires implementation and support of Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server or Microsoft SQL Server Express, but it is a more robust platform that can store much more analysis information in the same database and supports access by many more simultaneous users.

- Using the Free SQL Server Express Edition: Xfmea 5 is compatible with the "Express" edition of SQL Server (which is distributed at no cost by Microsoft). If your expected load for the database fits within the limited capabilities of the Express Edition (as specified by Microsoft), click here for instructions to install and configure SQL Server 2008 Express Edition for use with Xfmea.
